Intimacy, Longevity, and Desire: My Conversation on Salad with a Side of Fries

When you think about wellness, does your intimate life make the list?

We spend so much time talking about food, movement, and healthy habits. I want us to make room for conversations about pleasure, desire, and the connection we share with our partners, too.

I joined Jenn Trepeck on the Salad with a Side of Fries Podcast to explore sexual wellness, orgasmic intimacy, hormone health, and aging. We talked about why intimacy can slip off the radar over time—and how honest communication can help us find our way back to one another.

Real-Life Wellness With Jenn Trepeck

Jenn brings more than a decade of experience as an optimal health coach to the questions people have about nutrition, weight loss, and everyday wellbeing. Her podcast explores competing diet advice, wellness trends, and the marketing messages that can make it difficult to know what to believe.

I appreciate the real-life spirit of Salad with a Side of Fries. Eating out, enjoying dessert, or having a busy week belongs in an honest conversation about wellness. Our intimate lives deserve that same openness.

In this episode, we bring pleasure and connection into the discussion of what it means to live well as we age.

Understanding Libido, Desire, and Arousal

One of the central ideas we explore is the distinction between libido, desire, and arousal. These words often get used interchangeably, which can make it harder to describe what we’re experiencing—or what we need.

I share how I approach those differences in my work and why understanding them can change the conversation between partners.

If you’ve struggled to explain a change in your interest in sex or your body’s response, this part of the episode offers a place to begin asking more specific questions.

We also discuss the gaps in pleasure-based sex education for women. There is so much many of us were never taught about our own pleasure, and I want you to feel comfortable continuing to learn.

Why Communication Comes Before Technique

Before we get into techniques or tools, I want to talk about communication.

Feeling comfortable expressing a preference, asking for something different, or sharing a concern matters. So does listening to your partner without turning the conversation into a judgment about either of you.

Jenn and I explore why bedroom communication deserves ongoing attention. As our bodies, circumstances, and relationships change, we need ways to keep understanding one another.

An intimate life that keeps evolving starts with making room for those conversations.

Orgasmic Intimacy, Touch, and Healthy Aging

We discuss what I call “orgasmic intimacy” and how pleasure and connection fit into a broader conversation about healthspan.

The episode also explores blood flow, physical sensation, oxytocin, skin-to-skin contact, and questions about immune and pelvic health. These are areas where it matters to distinguish promising research from established health outcomes.

Research in couples has found that affectionate partner contact can reduce certain stress responses. That gives us a meaningful reason to pay attention to everyday touch without turning pleasure into a promise of a longer life.

We also discuss gut health and the yogurt I refer to as “oxytocin yogurt.” This is part of our conversation about the gut and hormone health, rather than a proven treatment or a guarantee of increased oxytocin.

GLP-1 Medications, Body Image, and Intimacy

Jenn and I also explore questions about GLP-1 medications, libido, and body image.

Changes in how we feel about our bodies can become part of our intimate relationships, and this conversation makes room to discuss those experiences. We explore what people are noticing and why sexual wellbeing belongs in conversations about weight and health.
