The Biggest Intimacy Myth That’s Holding You Back

The Biggest Intimacy Myth That’s Holding You Back

One of the greatest misconceptions about intimacy is that it’s something we’re simply supposed to know how to do. We assume passion should come naturally and, if it fades, that it’s just part of getting older or being together for a long time.

I don’t believe that’s true.

That’s why I was so excited to join Dr. Nick Delgado on the Beyond Human Podcast, where we explored what intimacy really is—and why it’s one of the most powerful tools we have for improving not only our relationships, but our health, happiness, and longevity.

Dr. Delgado brings together leading experts in nutrition, exercise, partner intimacy, NLP, self-motivation, bio-identical hormones, stem cells, telomeres, and other cutting-edge approaches to living a longer, healthier life. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect the science of longevity with the often-overlooked science of pleasure.

Intimacy Is About So Much More Than Sex

One of the biggest ideas we discussed is that intimacy isn’t just physical.

It’s neurological.

It’s emotional.

It’s hormonal.

It’s even spiritual.

When you begin to understand intimacy as a whole-body experience instead of a single event, everything changes. Your relationship deepens, your confidence grows, and your body begins responding in ways that support greater vitality and overall well-being.

Why We Need to Rethink Everything We’ve Been Taught

Many of us were taught to think about foreplay and sex as two separate things. In reality, I believe that’s an outdated way of looking at intimacy.

Foreplay isn’t something that starts five minutes before intercourse. It’s an ongoing dance of connection, anticipation, affection, communication, and shared pleasure that can last all day—and all throughout your relationship.

When couples embrace that mindset, they stop chasing performance and start creating experiences that bring them closer together.

During our conversation, Dr. Delgado and I also explored:

  • Why the traditional idea of “foreplay versus sex” limits intimacy
  • The incredible orgasmic potential that most people never discover
  • How men can experience far more than just one kind of orgasm
  • Why emotional presence matters far more than perfect performance
  • The real reasons passion often fades in long-term relationships
  • Practical ways to reignite desire, excitement, and deep connection—even after years together
  • How intimacy influences hormones, vitality, and healthy aging

Pleasure Is One of Nature’s Best Medicines

One of the topics I’m most passionate about is helping people understand that pleasure isn’t indulgent—it’s biologically intelligent.

When we experience loving touch, emotional safety, and satisfying intimacy, our bodies respond by producing hormones and neurotransmitters that help us feel happier, calmer, more connected, and more resilient.

Healthy intimacy can support:

  • Better mood and emotional well-being
  • Improved mental clarity and cognitive function
  • Greater relationship satisfaction
  • Healthier hormone balance
  • Stronger emotional connection
  • A longer health span and improved quality of life

This is one of the reasons I often say that intimacy is a cornerstone of longevity. Our love lives influence far more than our bedrooms—they influence our entire lives.

Passion Is a Skill You Keep Learning

Perhaps my favorite takeaway from this episode is this:

Passion isn’t something you lose—it’s something you stop learning.

The couples who continue growing together aren’t simply lucky. They’re curious. They keep learning, communicating, experimenting, and investing in one another.

Intimacy is a lifelong practice, and the more you explore it, the more rewarding it becomes.
